New Deal for Communities
Junior Wardens Page
The NDC junior wardens are a group of young people aged between 9 – 11 years, they take pride in their local community, and they are keen to learn about environmental issues, healthy eating and good citizenship. These young people meet every fortnight at the Lynnfield Centre and have taken part in many activity sessions including fire safety awareness training, first aid and recycling.

During the summer the junior wardens participated in a litter pick at Lynnfield School and went out on patrols with the NDC Community Wardens to help raise their awareness of everyday issues within their community. They also participated in an ‘It’s a Knockout Competition’ held at Stranton School, the team did not win but it was really good fun and enjoyed by everyone who took part. |

In October the junior wardens invited the Mayor of Hartlepool Stuart Drummond to one of their meetings and this gave the junior wardens the opportunity to ask many questions. The Mayor also learned about what these young people had been involved in and praised the junior wardens for their hard work and commitment to the scheme. Also in October the Safer Hartlepool Partnership asked the junior wardens to design a new logo to raise awareness and to help reduce walk in burglaries in Hartlepool. This competition ran until December and an event to launch the new design will be held in 2007 along with a presentation to the winners. |

As rewards for their commitment and hard work the junior wardens have visited Hartlepool United and watched the home game against Darlington and at Christmas we went to the cinema and on to Pizza Hut for tea. |
| |
Activities for 2007 will include a visit to Ormesby Hall to see the Police horses, a visit to a recycling centre, and intergenerational activities such as cooking and gardening with the residents of a local sheltered housing complex. |
