Q. What are Community Wardens?

A. Community Wardens are a uniformed patrolling force who work in partnership with the NDC, Police, Local Authority and other agencies to promote safety within your community.

Community Wardens are not a second tier Police force.  Responding to crime is the responsibility of the Police and all crimes should be reported to them.

Community Wardens compliment the Police by providing additional patrols in your area.

Should you be unsure about calling the Police or afraid of reprisals the Community Wardens will contact the Police on your behalf, in complete confidence.

The Wardens work Monday to Thursday 12.00 noon until 8.00pm and Friday 12.00 noon until 7.30pm.  They patrol your area reassuring vunerable residents and dealing with minor incidents of disorder.

Q. What decisions went into defining where the NDC boundary should start and finish?
A. The main reasons the boundary was chosen was because the area it enclosed: -
  • Was an area of multiple social disadvantage, i.e. its residents had poorer health, lower educational attainment, poorer housing etc. compared to the rest of Hartlepool.
  • Had not received much previous regeneration funding, unlike much of the surrounding area such as Burbank and Dyke House.
  • Met the Government's criteria of being no greater than 4000 households and 10,000 residents.
  • Represented, as far as possible, the boundaries of natural communities.
  • Included key recreational areas/organisations such as the Burn Valley Gardens, Mill House and HUFC and a key industrial area - The Longhill and Sandgate industrial estates.

Q. How many Wards are in the NDC area?
A. There are four Wards in the NDC area and these are: -
  • Burn Valley Ward
  • Foggy Furze Ward
  • Grange Ward
  • Stranton Ward
