What is New Deal for Communities?

Hartlepool New Deal for Communities (NDC) is one of 39 similar regeneration initiatives across the country. Each has been awarded up to £54 million of extra Government funding over a 10 year period.

The NDC area covers over 4000 households between Belle Vue and Hart Lane. NDC is all about bringing together residents of the area and local agencies to:

Improve housing and the environment

Reduce crime

Increase educational achievement

Create jobs and training opportunities

Improve health

Build a strong community

The residents top priority at Hartlepool NDC is to tackle the decline in housing in the area. There are too many empty properties, and problems with anti-social behaviour. A Housing Plan has been approved, and NDC has set up a new resident-led company to put the plan into action. The company is a partnership between NDC residents, the Council and two Housing Associations, Endeavour and Guinness.

The company is called Hartlepool Revival.

NDC is resident led. That means every decision taken about which projects to fund, or what priorities are established, is taken by a Steering Group made up of a majority of local residents, who work alongside other key partners. Elections for Steering Group members are held every autumn. Look out for information, cast your vote, or if you think you can contribute, why not put yourself forward for election?
